I was making fun of the snow for not being that serious in my last blog post….I would like to retract that previous statement. The snow over here has put me in a position I have never been before. Hands down the worst shooting conditions I have ever been in. It was a complete white-out blizzard in Paris. That is not an exaggeration by any means. We stood at the bottom of the Eiffel tower and couldn’t see the top. We all were soaked at the end of our trek around the city of love (although I’m not so sure we got any from it). Although our toes were cold and noses frosted we still got some epic shots of our couple at Paris’s grandest landmarks. I usually ask my clients to do some crazy things during a shoot, and almost always ask them to do something out of the norm. It was no different with our Europe couple, but they took dedication to a whole new level. They stood in the wet snow and smiled at each other, got close to stay warm, and kissed with love in their eyes. Even the storm of the decade couldn’t damper their spirits. That is why I am so excited to shoot their wedding. Their love was unconditional and good spirits contagious.

After shooting we went back to warm up, changed, and headed out to a great Frenchie restaurant. Abbey and I decided we deserved a nice dinner after a long day in the snow so we spoiled ourselves with French cuisine and red wine. And chocolate mousse. And creme brûlée. (It really was a tough day). The night only got better with a walk at midnight, with no precipitation for the first time in what seemed days. We even got to see the Eiffel Tower sparkle!

A night that was perfect turned into a morning that was quite the opposite. When we arrived at the train station in Paris the UK custom office decided that I was a terrorist and interrogated me for 40 minutes about my wedding photography business. I thought it was about the baguette and red wine that was stashed in Abbey’s purse, but luckily these went unscathed through the gates. We missed our train, had to learn to drive on the other side of the road, and got lost in London. After six hours and navigating “roundabouts” and vague road signs, we finally arrived to Newcastle where I am writing this blog post. Although we have faced many obstacles in the last 24 hours we have persevered through them all. Perseverance has no doubt been the theme of the day- perseverance by ourselves and by our amazing couple. I wish I could reveal who they are so I can give them major props, but that will come next week. If they read this, I just want them to know that they rock and I am incredibly thankful 🙂
