Life outside the big city of London is very different and much better in my mind. I believe to truly experience a country’s culture you need to explore its roots. We traveled to Alnwick this morning, which is 6 hours north of London close to the Scottish border. Life is quaint and just about everything has a hint of charm. When we arrived I immediately knew that this is what I have been waiting for. In my mind British towns consist of cobblestone streets, rows of old stone buildings, and enormous castles to make up their city centers. Alnwick possessed them all, and Abbey and I couldn’t have been happier to go exploring. We went on a hike through the castle grounds with some sheep, we had lunch in a basement teahouse called “Grannies” (it was amazing), and we spent the winter afternoon going through one of Britain’s top secondhand book stores…. Barter’s Books. Its owner is who found the famous British war poster that reads “Keep calm and carry on.” They even have the original up on display which you can see below!

In the past few days I have really started to fall in love with England. I love its traditions and history. I love that there are castles caddy-corner to primary schools. I love the accents and silly things they say. Instead of beer on draft they have beer on pump. Instead of Heinz ketchup they have tomato sauce. If you are cold you throw on a jumper instead of a sweater. All of these things make up the charm of England. At the corner of every cobblestone street there is a great little tea room or bakery.  I am just sad I don’t have enough time to visit them all. Tomorrow is our last day for shooting with our couple. I am incredibly pleased to say we will be taking photographs at Bamburgh Castle: an old estate that is placed on the edge of a cliff overlooking the North Sea. I am just excited to be there let alone capture some images. Hope everyone is well back home! Can’t wait to see what we get tomorrow!
