The day started out sub par. The rain was relentless and stormy rain clouds decided they wanted to follow me around all day. I brushed it aside and told myself it will pass. I made my way down to Pittsburgh only to be followed by the same rainstorm that wanted to soak our engagement session. I got especially worried when I turned onto Baum Boulevard and it started to pour. I’m talking ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ rainstorm, and I didn’t have Jake Gyllenhaal to save us. Then all of he sudden it stopped as soon as I pulled up to Jen and Jordan’s apartment….yes I am sure we were supposed to shoot in that beautiful fall light. Not one more drop for the rest of the day. Just gorgeous fall weather and a couple that loved each other immensely.
We started out by taking a stroll in the park with their energetic dog Sid who thought she was a Great Dane. She tried to move tree limbs that were three times the size of her little frame. Dogs were one of the themes of the day. I think we ran into about 50 of them while shooting throughout Frick Park. A few even decided they wanted to be photographers and took it upon themselves to get a closer look at my camera. There were a few other themes that popped up throughout the day. Jordan’s ability to make Jen laugh throughout the shoot, Jen’s endearing personality that made me feel like a good friend , but most importantly how obvious it was that these two loved being around each other. When I would change lenses or set up the next shot I could always see the two of them talking to each other completely immersed. It’s great to see that. It takes the pressure off my knowing they would be having a great time even if I wasn’t there taking photos.
I am so happy I got to spend some time and get to know these two. It got be excited to shoot their wedding this April!
