When we got to the shoot Charli informed me Nick was practicing his smile in the mirror back at home. I can definitely appreciate a guy who wants to make his engagement photos great, especially when the session takes place during the Pens game. No practiced smile could match his natural grin that Charli gave him, though. And that’s what is important about images: couples being themselves in front of the camera. No crazy posing or over the top drama, at least not for me. I like to keep things simple, and Charli and Nick allowed me to do exactly that. We started our shoot under the cover of clouds in Allegheny Commons Park, where Charli and Nick were the epitome of class and elegance even amongst the craziness of a dog park and some pretty interesting characters who were also enjoying the warm evening.
After our wanderings in the park we made our way to Mt. Washington where we were fortunate enough to have some sun peak through the clouds. See Pittsburgh, it doesn’t hurt to be sunny every once in awhile! We took advantage of the sunlight and snapped a few shots of Charli’s beautiful engagement ring with parts from one of their favorite board games-Scrabble. I think it’s great that they made their photos personal by adding elements of the things they love to do with each other. Personal photos make meaningful photos, and that’s what I am all about. Charli is an avid scrapbooker, and I can’t wait to see what she does with their images. I’m looking forward to their winter wedding this November 🙂
