When I tell people we’re going to primarily be hanging out/ I’ll just happen to be taking photographs it’s not a spiel; that’s really how it is. Last Saturday’s Pittsburgh engagement shoot with Jennifer and Scott was a great example of that. We walked along the river, checked out Heinz field, got swarmed by some geese, played in the [waterless] fountain by PNC Park and enjoyed a beautiful winter day with the most amazing views of the city. I could not think of a better way to enjoy a blue-skied afternoon in Pittsburgh (it sounds weird even to say) than by capturing the love of a happy couple through photography.

I have to give Jennifer most of the credit for this shoot turning out so well.  Besides having a great personality and just being a ton of fun, she chose the date, which just happened to be the day sandwiched between an ice storm on Friday and fresh snow on Sunday. Those of you who follow along on the blog know that I have just about the worst luck when it comes to weather- snow, rain, sleet, and bitter cold temperatures have plagued many of my photography sessions. Each time I have been lucky enough to have some pretty great couples willing to stick it out with me. While I enjoy overcoming challenges and getting great photographs despite adverse conditions, I will confess I also enjoyed heading home with dry socks on my feet.

I also have to give Scott some credit for this shoot simply for making Jennifer so happy that she constantly had a huge smile on her face. They laughed and smiled and genuinely enjoyed each other, and I had a great time capturing the day. I love that Jennifer and Scott were able to let their guard down and be themselves in front of me and my camera, laugh at me when I asked them to dangle their feet over the river, and talk Penguins hockey as the sun went down.
