I went through my ever growing gear list checking things off, packed up my car, and headed to West Virginia for an engagement session that I knew would be spectacular. More importantly, though, I was headed to see an old friend and his sweetheart fiancé. Last time I visited Greg and Kristi a few months ago we took some shots as we scouted their wedding location. It is going to be at Smokey’s on the Gorge, a quaint cabin resort overlooking a 3000-foot valley. During their fall wedding the gorge will be painted with the fall colors on the trees. It is going to be freaking beautiful and I can’t wait. You can check it out those images on the blog here (the ones of the cliff face are my favorite).
Last time I visited they had a cute little German Sheppard puppy named Gus. Now they have a full-blown dire wolf named Gus. He is seriously huge, but still just as friendly as he was as a puppy. After playing with Gus and Granger (their other pup) for a bit we headed to Huntington, which is the town that plays host to Marshall and is where these two love birds first met. It was a beautiful day up until the very moment when we wanted to start shooting. As soon as we stepped out of the car the rain clouds opened up and a warm summer rain came down on us. We hurriedly jumped back into Greg’s truck, plugged in some Bon Iver tunes and talked while we let the storm cover everything with a wet shimmer. Once the storm subsided we wandered into a farm whose only occupants were two friendly cats that did everything they could to get a cameo; So much so that I had to include a few photos of them in the blog post. A rainy afternoon turned into a fun night at the bar watching the Pens and drinking Yuenglings. I can’t wait for their wedding- it is going to be seriously awesome!
